Killed a new tie-bar lifter

Hi all,
I put my 84 HO back together with used GT 40 heads complete with trick flow springs, a Trick flow stage 1 cam, a new steel gear distributor, and comp cam roller lifters. I ran it multiple times on the driveway to get good idle with the new refurbished Edelbrock 600 vacuum secondary carburetor with no issues at all. I took it out for a quick drive and probably cranked it up to 4.5K rpm, and noticed it was making a audible clicking sound so I pulled it back in the garage. Pulled both valve covers and noticed the lifter on cylinder number 8 was very loose. I pulled the distributor and used my tool to crank the oil pump and noticed the 8 lifter rise as I was running the tool, and drop down when I stopped the tool. I decided to bow to the gods and start to pull the drivers side head, and I noticed the # 8 spark plug was not as easy to get out.

My question to the smart folks is, did I kill the lifter or did the dynamics of the TF springs some how send the lifter to an early grave? And, I don't want to repeat pulling the head so I ask if I should convert it back to flat lifters?

Thanks,
DE
